Private Sampan

The morning after I ate the street frog, Ryan and I got up, took our selection of pills, went for our free massages, and THEN had breakfast. I thought I had gotten an upset tummy because of the pills and no food, but sadly we traced it back to the frog. We arrived at the speedy boat to take us from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc, Vietnam. The speedy boat had wifi, and we were the only people on it, except for the driver and the representative (a lovely girl who I forget her name, but she facilitated our entry into Vietnam). Victoria Chau Doc resort was lovely; Ryan and I took a quick dip in the pool before dinner, which was good because it rained very hard (was cool to watch from within the restaurant).
The next day we boarded the Song Xanh Sampam, which was our own private boat for three days and two nights, including our guide (Em) and three staff. They served us so much food, which would have been awesome if I could eat any of it :( Ryan did the best he could, but so much went uneaten that our white guilt ran pretty high.
I basically relaxed a lot (sleeping and posting on Instagram since the Sampam had WIFI!!!) and unfortunately had to miss it on a bike ride through the countryside, which I had been looking forward to.
On our last day (day four of illness), I felt a lot better in the morning, but proceeded to eat some coconut candy samples and regress due to the massive amount of sugar. Our lunch at the French restaurant owned by Victoria Cruises was excellent, and our drive to Saigon was interesting  since we had to make a detour (we paid the toll fare) to a toilet for yours truly.
We had dinner with Tommy from Signatures of Asia that evening, at a really posh Vietnamese restaurant that catered to foreigners. Tommy (and the staff) were the only Vietnamese there! Excellent food, but again we ordered too much and I could not eat my fair share.
The next post will be either tomorrow or in a few days, as we are currently in Luang Prabang, Laos and leave tomorrow on the Shompoo cruise to Thailand (journey takes 2 days and we'll stay overnight tomorrow in Pakbeng).
Fresh coconuts (rehydration my nation!) as a welcome drink upon Song Xanh Sampan. This was our living room.
Lunch the first day. Notice the bread, that was requested for my poor sick ass (no pun intended)
Us in a smaller sampan to take us to some museum and temple and I'm sorry I didn't pay that much attention because I was NOT FEELING IT
The view from our bed, where I spent a lot of time.
Petrol station along the Mekong
The lead up to the temple
All-faith temple that Ryan visited
The temple takes the best parts of every faith doctrine and incorporates it into their practice. Can you spot Jesus?
A Catholic church along the Mekong
Attempting to have breakfast. Mostly fruits were eaten.

  1. Genevieve and Ryan are in Vietnam,
The second country on their itinerary.
They relaxed on their private Saipan
while Genevieve attempted a quick recovery.

They were fed a king's feast
by the staff of the Song Xanh.
Genevieve tried but ate the least,
which left the rest to pauvre Ryan!

We love it when you keep up with your blog
so we can follow your journey and progress.
But remember: please stay away from the frog
or you will find yourself in the same mess!

    Love you xxoo
